Single tooth implants by leading LI cosmetic dentists
Single tooth implants are an effective and permanent solution for people who are missing individual teeth. Dental implants are actually much stronger than your natural teeth, and will last up to 20 years. At Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Nick and Dr. Elliott offer several same day dental implant procedures in their private office, helping patients regain a confident and winning smile.
Single tooth dental implants
A dental implant is an artificial prosthesis used to replace a missing tooth in the lower or upper jaw. Most single dental implants are made of surgical grade titanium – a biocompatible metal that can fuse with the bone – that, once implanted in the jawbone, serves as the new anchor for the replacement tooth, or crown.
While dental implants may be more costly than other kinds of tooth restoration or replacement, their benefits are numerous. Patients who have lost a single tooth or several teeth due to sports injuries or periodontal disease may be excellent candidates for this type of cosmetic dentistry.
Advantages of implants for tooth replacement
Dental implants are often advantageous over partial dentures or bridges, making them a smart tooth replacement option for patients of all ages.
Some of the key benefits of dental implants include:
- More comfortable and secure than dentures
- They are permanent, as they fuse with your bone
- Dental implants will never shift or move out of place
- Look and feel more like your natural teeth
- Easier to clean compared to bridges
- Help maintain jawbone integrity
- Less invasive than a tooth-fixed bridge
- Help prevent bone deterioration associated with missing teeth
- Preserves adjacent teeth
- Single tooth dental implants will never decay
Dental implant procedure
Our highly-credentialed cosmetic dentists boast years of experience performing both staged and same-day dental implant procedures on Suffolk and Nassau County residents.
During the first phase, Dr. Nick or Dr. Elliot will place the titanium implant that replaces the tooth root below the gum and flush with the bone.
Over the next several months, this implant is allowed to fuse with the jawbone, forming a secure anchor from which the artificial tooth will be attached. A temporary crown can be worn during the interim.
After bone integration is successfully established, an abutment (post) is connected to the titanium implant and a custom replacement tooth is affixed. In most cases, the entire process lasts from four to seven months.
Some patients may also prove good candidates for a one-stage or single visit dental implant procedure that utilizes innovative techniques for quick, effective results. After the procedure, patients can get back to their normal routine right away and eating their favorite foods. This specialized same day dental implant procedure saves time and diminishes anxiety that often goes hand-in-hand with cosmetic dentistry.
Both same day and two-stage dental implants enjoy comparable success rates; Dr. Nick and Dr. Elliott will decide which option is most suitable for you.
Ideal candidates for tooth replacement
In order to determine if you’re a good candidate for a single tooth dental implant, a thorough oral examination, X-rays and detailed medical and dental history are needed.
A good candidate for tooth implants will:
- Be in overall good health
- Have healthy gums that are free of disease
- Have adequate bone to support the dental implant
- Be dedicated to good oral hygiene after the procedure

Recovery & results after a single tooth implant
No matter which type of dental implant procedure is chosen, the recovery process involves minimal discomfort or disruption to your normal activities. If a temporary crown is used while the implant fuses with the bone, patients may be asked to avoid hard or crunchy foods. Once the final tooth replacement is successfully in place, patients are often elated with their newfound confidence and self-esteem.
Statistically, long-term success rates are over 90 percent for the majority of implant recipients. To maintain the health and appearance of your new teeth, regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene and daily flossing are imperative. Periodic X-rays are also recommended to assess bone health and ensure that the tooth replacements are still properly secured.
